“Playing safe, is very risky.” -Seth Godin
They say, all glory comes from daring to begin. How relevant is this statement in today’s scenario? Does it hold true in a dynamic life like ours? Surprisingly, the answer is yes.
There are no two ways about this. We’re living in frenetic times. Our eyes open to headlines on the newspaper that would end up making us feel afraid, hunker down, play safe and hope for the best. Etymologically, ‘Comfort-zones’, are situations we are congenial in. Clearly, in the rapidly changing era of the modern world, one that breeds anxiety and urges caution, we decline towards creating boundaries around ourselves. Little do we realize that by making these boundaries we’re not keeping people out, rather, we’re simply fencing us in.
Imagine how you picture yourself
Cast your mind ahead, years from now and try to imagine how you picture yourself. Will your future self thank you for the stuff you’re exposing yourself to today? Do you want to look back on these moments that you are willingly letting subside, with regrets? Is it only because you are afraid of doing something new? Guess not.
Playing the safe card will not always work in your favour. There will be days when you will have to throw yourself out into the wild. Learn it the hard way. Be rest assured, the thrill it will pleasure you with, shall be worth it all. The adrenaline rush that follows; Oh boy, is it addictive!
Here are a few risks everyone should undertake time and again in their lives.
-
Risks of Rejection
Sometimes the fear of not being accepted compels us to follow the ways of the society. We all want to be adored, looked up to, and I’m yet to meet anyone who enjoys being criticized, much less rejected. Maybe, we’re just wired that way. Take pride in owning what makes you unique, to walk your own path, express your own opinion and do what’s true for you as opposed to what others expect of you. It’s not easy, but it’s crucial to your success. It’s what sets you apart from the crowd.
-
Risks of Failing
Let’s not even get there. I’m sure, by now you must be having many quotes memorized as to why failures are essential. It all boils down to this cycle of life. In the real world too, you’ll never know if you never try. Failure is inevitable. It’s natural. Learn to accept it and face it with a smile.
-
Risks of Imperfection
It’s okay to be less than perfect. Don’t lose your charm trying to fit in when you were born to stand out. They make you fear your imperfections, but in fact they are the diamond of your being.
Move out of your comfort zone. Nothing ever grows there. It is pivotal for your evolution and growth. You will never really become a bigger and a better version of yourself if you are unwilling to stretch. Imagine what wonders you can do if you leave the city of your comfort to go the wilderness of your intuition. Give it a shot. In the end, you’ll only regret the chances you didn’t take.
