Know yourself before you know your business


Being an entrepreneur is not an easy job. As we see successful entrepreneurs we always envision ourselves in that same position. But a large number of startups fail, and those that succeed, do so after intense hard work.

It takes mental preparation of massive proportions to ensure that you are ready to be an entrepreneur, a leader and a manager. Know your strengths and weaknesses

An entrepreneur must know not only his strengths, but also his weaknesses. Your strengths are important to decide what you can do and how well you can do it. Your weaknesses are important since you will need to know what you cannot do and get help for that.

You might be great at creating content, but not particularly good at generating analytics for customer engagement. This assessment will require being objective and honest. An important thing you will be required to do as an entrepreneur is to give direction to the company.

Confidence is the key

Knowing yourself inside out will give you confidence in yourself. With confidence in yourself, comes confidence in your business and the decisions you will take regarding that. If you are drowning in self-doubt, it will reflect in your work and in your decision-making. If you second-guess yourself, so will the rest of your team.

The more confident you are, the more genuine will be your style of doing business. And everyone, from your team members to your customers, will appreciate your honesty. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you in that direction.

Clear vision and mission

Once you know yourself you will also know what you want to do. Do you have an idea or are you still searching for one? Do you want to go solo or are you looking for a partner? Do you have a passion you want to follow?

A clear vision comes after understanding yourself better, which in turn will help you mentally prepare yourself for the role of an entrepreneur. You have to have the confidence of knowing the path you want to take.

Delegation is a key part of success

An entrepreneur is a leader, a boss, a manager, everything rolled into one. With clarity comes the knowledge that you can’t do everything single handedly and delegation is a key part of success.

You need to be in a good state of mind to be an entrepreneur. You should be prepared to face any difficulty and any hurdle, because those are a part of the journey. Knowing that you can face anything that will be thrown at you will give you the confidence you need to overcome those difficulties. As an entrepreneur, you must first think know yourself, and then focus on your business. Lack of clarity in regards to your abilities will make your team members regard you the same way. You are your own boss, and that is no small thing.
