When you start your journey as a debut entrepreneur, you are clueless as to what the road ahead looks like and how the journey to get to the top is going to be. There will be hundreds of people who will be giving you thousands of  different advices. However, one thing which many people will tell you is to talk!

Yes, that’s right! In the business world, it is known as Networking. Networking is believed to be one of the most vital and effective tools in the field of business. However, recently it has been observed that networking is no longer that important and is something which budding entrepreneurs can do away with. This blog focuses on the reasons for such a paradigm shift.

Importance of Networking

A great amount of importance is attached to networking. Networking is nothing but interacting with fellow entrepreneurs who’ve had a firsthand experience at entrepreneurship in order to be able to understand and gauge the road ahead.

Networking helps in more ways than one. First and foremost, it helps in widening your circle. Once you start getting to know more and more people, your social circle becomes broader you get to meet people from different walks of life who have more experience behind them. This has a direct impact on broadening your horizon.

Secondly, when you come in contact with people who may have started similar business ventures as what you may be planning to do, then there will be a lot to discuss. Such people will provide you with a practical insight into the intricacies involved in the business which you may not be able to predict or imagine but will surely help you in preparing for it. Once you get to know of these intricacies or complexities, you will be able to take the necessary precautions in order to ensure that you don’t get entangled in that.

 Changing perception about Networking

Management experts are of the opinion that networking is no longer a process where a person can go with his business cards and exchange it with his mentor’s business cards. It goes much deeper than that. One of the chief reasons for such a transition has been that today social media plays a critically vital role in our lives.

Take any reason, be it to make new friends or simply to revive old friends with whom we may have lost touch, there is a portal which takes care of almost anything and everything. Why go far, even for getting better jobs and employers, there is a social media platform ready at our disposal. So when everything is available at the click of the mouse, it is actually doubtful as to how effective is this traditional way of networking.

Best form of networking

Secondly, if you have already made your foray into business, then the best form of networking should ideally be from your quality of work. At the end of the day, if your business partners or collaborators or vendors and most importantly your customers are happy and satisfied with your product or service, then they are not just going to come back to you but will also spread a good word about you in their respective circles. Will this not a better and a more effective way of reaching out and networking that you’re your customers getting new customers? This is something you must think about.

In today’s parlance where everything is so result oriented, this practice of letting your work speak for you will hold more ground. Hence, today’s interpretation of networking should ideally be “you do your work and let your customers take care of your business”.
